Two people were hurt in a 2-vehicle accident on U.S. Hiway 10 this morning in the Town of Farmington. According to the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department, a deer smashed into an eastbound S-U-V about half mile east of Morgan Drive. The crash with the deer sent the vehicle’s hood into the windshield. A semi behind the S-U-V couldn’t slow down in time to avoid hitting the rear driver’s side of the S-U-V. The semi was loaded with scrap metal, and as it swerved, it rolled onto it’s side, sending the scrap metal all over the hiway. A female passenger in the S-U-V had to be extricated from the wreckage by Waupaca fire personnel. She was flown by ThedaStar to a Fox Valley Hospital with severe, but not life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was taken to ThedaCare Waupaca hospital. The hiway was closed down for several hours for clean-up. The crash remains under investigation.
