Portage County authorities have released the names of those involved in a serious injury accident in the Town of Carson Saturday afternoon. Two men were hurt when their vehicles, one of them a motorcycle, ran into some wooden barn beams that had fallen off a truck on U.S. Hiway 10 shortly after 2 pm. 56 year old David Heup of Shawano was hurt when he was hit by the motorcycle while standing alongside his van, after it became disabled after hitting one of the beams. The motorcyclist, 40 year old Daniel Smith of Schofield, had lost control of his cycle after hitting another one of the beams. Heup suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, and was flown from the scene to St. Joseph’s trauma center in Marshfield. Smith suffered less severe injuries, and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital by ambulance. The driver of the truck and trailer that spilled the beams has been identified as 75 year old William Porter of Vesper. He was issued a 200-dollar fine for failure to properly secure a load.
