The Waupaca County Board of Supervisors this morning got an update on the transition process for workers at Waupaca County Indusries in Manawa. The facility, which has offered a sheltered workplace for disabled Waupaca County residents for nearly 30 years, is closing its doors at the end of the month. Nancy Leipzig, the program director for Community Care, which oversees WCI, told the board that several agencies and employers are stepping forward to provide opportunities for these workers in places such as Manawa, Clintonville, Appleton, and Shawano. In all, there are 72 employees of Waupaca County Industries. Leipzig says of those, 11 are over the age of 60, and a number of them are going to retire.
