Fourteen counties in Wisconsin have been declared primary natural disaster areas by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The agency made the announcement Wednesday afternoon. The declaration stems from the excessive snow and rain in the state from January through mid-August. In our area, Winnebago, Outagamie, and Brown Counties are named as primary areas, while the adjacent counties of Waupaca, Waushara, Green Lake, and Shawano are also included in the declaration. That means farmers in those counties can also apply for federal emergench loans to replace equipment or livestock, or refinance certain debts. The deadline to apply for the loans is October 5th, but the Farm Service Agency recommends farmers apply as soon as possible.
