A person is in custody in Outagamie County following a series of vehicle crimes last Thursday night. The sheriff’s office says it started when an S-U-V rammed into the back of an Appleton airport public safety truck around 11 pm. When a passerby stopped to help at the crash scene, the S-U-V driver stole that person’s pick-up, which had a 13 year old girl inside, and a rifle. The girl was dropped off at a Grand Chute gas station by the car thief, but before she got out she activated a “find my phone” app, and left her cellphone in the truck. A few minutes later a hit and run was reported in the Medina area. Deputies there found the driver and stolen pick-up in a field off State Highway 96 near Dale. The suspect attempted to flee on foot, but was captured by authorities.
