A convicted sex offender who had been released and placed in Portage County, is back in a treatment facility after violating terms of his release. 43 year old Jason Staves of Chippewa County was convicted of two counts of sexual assault of a child in 1993, and in 1997 he was deemed a sexually violent offender, and sent to a treatment facility in Mauston. About a year ago Staves was released, and placed in a home in the Town of Alban. On Tuesday of this week Staves was back in Chippewa County Court, where he was found to have violated terms of his release, and sent back to the treatment facility. The Leader-Telegram newspaper reports Staves was found to be in possession of pornography and a knife, and had stopped taking his medication. His placement in Portage County led to State Representative Katrina Shankland to push for legislation that would keep sexually violent offenders from being placed in counties outside of whee they’re from.
