Waupaca County Board Supervisors got an update this week on the upcoming closure of Waupaca County Industries in Manawa. For nearly 3 decades, Waupaca County Industries helped train and employ those with physical and cognitive disabilities. Earlier this year, due to rising costs, and less in state re-imbursement, the county notified the state program Community Care that the count would not be continuing its contract to oversee the program. Community Care took over operations of WCI in 2010. Valley Packaging in the Fox Valley had expressed interest in taking over the operation, but they recently notified Community Care that they were no longer interested. The county is hoping to hear from a Community Care representative at the December meeting of the county board.
