WAUPACA TO PLAY FOR BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Waupaca Comet baseball team will play for a Division 2 state baseball championship today.  Waupaca used the solid pitching of senior Jason Ellie, and some clutch hitting, to defeat West Salem in a semi-final Wednesday night 6-3.  Ellie pitched a  complete game, giving up just one earned run and striking out 11 to improve to 8-1 on the year.  Waupaca got a clutch 3-run double from Nate Meihak in the 3rd, and a 2-run single by Walker Smith in the 5th…. both those hits coming with two outs.  The Comets will now face Milwaukee Lutheran in the title game this afternoon at Fox Cities Stadium.  The Red Knights knocked off Lodi 4-1 in the other semi-final.  Today’s game is a rematch of last year’s sectional final, won by Milwaukee Lutheran 3-2.  Gametime is slated for 3 pm, and you can hear it on FM 92.7 WDUX.
