Waupaca School District taxpayers will see a slight reduction in the district’s tax rate this year. Business manager Carl Hayek gave a preliminary budget overview to the school board last night. The 34.2 million dollar budget is down 7 percent from this past year, and calls for a tax rate of 10 dollars and 69 cents per thousand dollars valuation, down 10 cents per thousand from a year ago, or a 10 dollar savings on a 100,000 dollar home. Some numbers from the budget…… the district’s equalized property valuation is up 1.9 percent; health insurance costs are up 2.6 percent; state aid received by the district is expected to be down 136,600 dollars….. the district has lost 3.7 million dollars in state aid money since 2008. And student enrollment is down 13. Future projections show the district’s enrollment dropping by 100 over the next six years.
