The American Red Cross is encouraging Wisconsinites, and people nation-wide, to donate blood, become a volunteer, receive training, or donate money to help families affected by disasters, as part of “Giving Day” on Wednesday. “Giving Day” is a 24-hour campaign to help support the work of the Red Cross. According to Wisconsin’s Patty Flowers, a regional C-E-O for the agency, every 8 minutes a family loses everything to a home fire or other disaster. This spring, as in the past, the Red Cross targets areas of the state for free smoke alarm installation events. One more is scheduled, for the city of Omro on Wednesday. And the agency is holding several blood drives across the state Wednesday…. the closest to our Waupaca area is at the UW- Stevens Point. That will run from 10 a.m. until 3 pm.
