The WIAA Board of Control has voted to discontinue the State Summer Baseball Tournament Series after this coming season. The board’s rational was based on projections that fewer than 30 schools would sponsor summer baseball in 2019-2020. This year there are 50 schools that offer summer baseball. At it’s peak 25 years ago, 110 schools were playing summer baseball. The Board of Control has also rescinded plans to implement a 35-second shot clock in high school basketball. Last summer the board had voted 6-4 to implement the clock beginning next year. That now will not happen. And the board voted 6-5 against moving forward with a basketball “Rural/Urban” competitive equity plan for Divisions 3,4, and 5.
